Labour says homlessness has quadrupled under FF-PD coalition

The Labour Party has accused the Government of making selective announcements to boost its own profile ahead of the impending general election.

Party spokesman Eamon Gilmore said the Fianna Fail-PDs coalition has brought forward the announcement of National Lottery grants for projects in various constituencies, but has made no comment on announcements that could reflect badly on its performance over the last five years.

Mr Gilmore called on Junior Minister Bobby Molloy to make an early announcement on the number of people listed as homeless and the number of people who are on council housing lists.

He said there are now 10,000 homeless people in Ireland, four times the amount there was when the current coalition took power.
