ASTI conference to resume in Co Donegal

Secondary school teachers will continue to discuss their long-running pay dispute with the Government when the ASTI’s annual conference resumes in Bundoran, Co Donegal, later today.

Motions put forward yesterday reflected a degree of frustration among delegates, who voted by almost two-to-one against a proposal to rejoin talks with the Government over payment for supervision and substitution duties.

Today, the ASTI is expected to discuss how to progress their campaign to have payment for these duties made pensionable.

Meanwhile, general secretary Charlie Lennon is expected to call on the union’s 17,500 members to unite despite their difficulties in the interest of their 30% pay claim.
