Steel plant stripped of assets before collapse

Leaked memos have revealed that Ireland's only steel plant Irish Ispat in Cork harbour, was stripped of its assets before it finally collapsed with debts of 60m euro in June 2001.

Cork FG deputy Deirdre Cloone has called for an immediate investigation into the allegations and is concerned that £4m of a Government grant for direct environmental uppgrading was not spent on the plant.
