Doyle may replace O'Reilly as FG's Wexford candidate
There is speculation that Fine Gael MEP Avril Doyle could stand for election in Wexford in the upcoming general election.
The party’s current candidate, Eddie O’Reilly, has withdrawn from the election to make way for a high-profile candidate with a greater chance of strengthening Fine Gael’s holding in the five-seat constituency.
When contacted, Ms Doyle said she knew nothing about the situation, but Mr O’Reilly has issued a statement claiming the MEP has agreed to stand in his place, pending discussions with party leader Michael Noonan.
A press conference on the matter has been called for this afternoon.
