Ugandan soldiers to stand trial for Irish priest's murder

Two Ugandan soldiers are expected to stand trial this morning accused of murdering Irish priest Fr Declan O’Toole last Thursday.

The 31-year-old priest, from Headford in Co Galway, was shot dead along two Ugandans at an illegal roadblock in the north-east of the country.

Criminals had erected the roadblock to help them rob passing traffic.

If found guilty, the two soldiers on trial today could face execution by firing squad.
