IHS and Govt to discuss compensation for haemophiliacs
The Irish Haemophilia Society and the Department of Health are expected to make contact today to agree legislation for the compensation of haemophiliacs who contracted HIV through contaminated blood products.
Health Minister Micheal Martin hopes to be able to clear the legislation before the Dail is dissolved ahead of the upcoming general election.
If he fails to resolve the issue, Mr Martin faces the prospect of being bombarded by writs issued on behalf of the estimated 105 haemophiliacs who were infected with HIV through products imported from the US.
