New ban on mobile use at wheel
The use of mobile phones while driving is due to be outlawed by the Government within the next two days.
It is reported new restrictions on the use of hand-held phones while at the wheel will come into effect within 48 hours.
Junior Environment Minister Bobby Molloy will introduce the new regulation, which would leave offenders facing prosecution under the Road Traffic Act, large fines and jail terms.
In addition, penalty points will be added to offenders' driving licences.
