Ferris complains of garda assault

Sinn Fein's North Kerry election candidate, Martin Ferris, was last night released by gardai without charge.

He has claimed he was assaulted in garda custody and has made an official complaint. A file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions at a later stage.

Mr Ferris was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged abduction and beating of a man in Castleisland last December.

Eight other Sinn Fein figures have also been questioned about the incident in the past few weeks, but all were released without charge.
