Man held overnight in double murder probe

The man being questioned in relation to the deaths of two people in Waterford yesterday morning, has been held overnight by Dungarvan gardai.

The victims have been named locally as Joan Power from Ardmore in Waterford, and her former employer, Maurice Curran, a publican, from Clashmore.

Ms Power died from stab wounds, while Mr Curran recieved fatal gunshot injuries.

Both victims were in their forties. A shotgun found at one of the scenes is being examined by garda forensic staff.

A post mortem was carried out last night, but the results will not be available until later today.
