Teenage boy shot in leg in Belfast

A 14-year-old boy is recovering in hospital this morning after he was shot in the leg in a paramilitary-style punishment attack last night.

The teenager was shot once in the right thigh after he was assaulted by three masked men, who dragged him behind a pub in the Cavehill Road area of north Belfast.

Meanwhile, a Catholic teenager is also recovering in hospital after he was stabbed in the back in a north Belfast shopping centre last night.

19-year-old Anthony Reid was taking a short-cut through the Yorkgate shopping centre when four men from the nearby loyalist Tigers Bay area ambushed him and a friend.

Police are treating the incident as sectarian.
