The National Safety Council has said the public is not listening to messages about road safety, despite a number of high-profile media campaigns in recent years.

Pat Costello, a spokesman for the council, said drivers are continually being warned about drink-driving, speeding and failing to wear a seat belt, but the carnage on Ireland’s roads shows no sign of decreasing.
