Probation officers are due to begin industrial action this morning as part of a dispute with the Department of Justice.

260 probation workers, members of the IMPACT trade union, will down tools in 60 locations throughout Ireland in protest at plans to allow candidates with no criminal justice or welfare experience to apply for the new post of director of the Parole Service.
