Dept of Education begins search for supervisors
The Department of Education has begun a major recruitment drive ahead of the ASTI’s next round of industrial action.
Applications forms for supervisors are featured in the national press today.
The move has been described as a contingency measure and it follows a promise by Education Minister, Dr Michael Woods, not to allow schools to be closed by fresh ASTI action.
A security check will be run on people applying for the positions and those who are hired will undergo training before taking up the posts.
An estimated 2,000 people are needed to do the job and they will be guaranteed €68 a day and another €34.28 for each additional hour.
ASTI wants double that and a €2,000 back payment or lump sum for the work that up to now has been voluntary.
