Greens: PDs' comments are 'utter rubbish'

The Green Party has hit back at the Progressive Democrats following comments made at the PDs’ pre-election conference at the weekend.

During the conference, Attorney General Michael McDowell, who is standing for the PDs in the election, said the Green Party would introduce a 50% income tax rate for everybody if brought to power.

However, Trevor Sergeant, the Green Party leader, today dismissed those claims as utter rubbish.

"Our whole basis in relation to taxation is to reduce the type of taxation that [Mr McDowell] talks about on labour and have it levied on what actually needs to be conserved, that is to say on finite resources," he said.

"That’s the type of thing which is going to benefit not only the economy today, but also future generations."
