McDowell criticises Labour

The Government’s Attorney General, Michael McDowell, has attacked the Irish Labour Party at the Progressive Democrat’s annual conference in Limerick today.

Mr McDowell told the conference that if the Labour Party were to return to power, tens of thousands of jobs could be lost.

The Attorney General believes that either the PD’s or the Labour party will hold the balance of power after this year’s election and he is determined to undermine the policies that Labour have set out in their pre-election manifesto.

Mr McDowell is to run for the PD’s in the upcoming general election in the Dublin southeast constituency.

He also rubbished the proposals to compensate taxi drivers and Eircom shareholders and he followed the example of his party leader, Mary Harney, by attacking the policies of Sinn Fein.

The fact that two of the most prominent members of the party have both criticised Sinn Fein would suggest that the PD's fear that Sinn Fein could challenge some of their seats.
