An elderly woman who suffers from deep-vein thrombosis has been deported to Ireland from Canada despite her pleas to be able to stay.

Elizabeth Sweeney, 84, boarded a plane for Ireland accompanied by a nurse and an immigration official yesterday. Her daughter Veronica left Canada last month, also under a deportation order.
