FG TD seeks weekend poll

Fine Gael has called on the Government to hold the upcoming general election on a weekend to encourage young people to vote.

Party spokesman Michael Ring said: "It is important for the students, particularly students who are away at college.

"If Bertie Ahern is really in touch with the youth, he and the Government will have the poll on a Saturday or a Sunday to give the youth of the country an opportunity to vote."
