Byrne orders new inquiry into du Plantier murder
The Garda Commissioner, Pat Byrne, has ordered a new inquiry into the unsolved murder of French film executive Sophie Toscan du Plantier.
The new investigation comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions ruled there should be no criminal charges arising from the original Garda file on the case, due to insufficient evidence.
The new probe is to be headed by senior detectives who were heavily involved in the investigation into corruption allegations against members of the force in Co Donegal.
Ms Toscan du Plantier's battered body was found near to her remote West Cork holiday home, near Skibbereen, on December 23, 1996.
