Police in the North have arrested a serving loyalist politician in connection with the murder of Catholic postman Daniel McColgan in north Belfast on Saturday.

Police in the North have arrested a serving loyalist politician in connection with the murder of Catholic postman Daniel McColgan in north Belfast on Saturday.

Tommy Kirkham, an independent councillor in Newtownabbey, is one of two people currently being questioned about the murder.

Mr Kirkham was a member of the anti-agreement Ulster Democratic Party, the political wing of the UDA, until the party was disbanded last year.

The UDA has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s killing.
