Loyalist threats condemned by Taoiseach

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has condemned the threats made by Loyalist paramilitaries against teachers at Catholic schools in North Belfast.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has condemned the threats made by Loyalist paramilitaries against teachers at Catholic schools in North Belfast.

Mr Ahern said the threats were naked sectarian intimidation of innocent employees that are designed to further exacerbate tensions in the area.

The Taoiseach’s statement comes as security chiefs prepare to set up a new community police unit in the Ardoyne area. Plans for a permanent squad are now at an advanced stage.
