Man dies in Mayo accident

A cyclist has been killed in an accident in Co Mayo this evening.

The accident happened near Ballina on the main road to Sligo.

The man was struck by a car shortly before 5pm.

The body has been taken to Sligo General Hospital and the name of the deceased is being withheld until all next of kin have been informed.

Meanwhile, a woman in her sixties has been killed in an accident about three miles from Mullingar on the main Dublin-Sligo Road.

She was struck by a car shortly after 5pm. The body has been taken to Longford-Westmeath General Hospital in Mullingar.

The dead woman’s name is also being withheld until all next of kin have been informed.
