Three arrested after botched hold-up

Three men have been arrested following an attempted security van hold-up in Irishtown, Dublin.

A gang confronted a security van crew outside a local library.

It is understood one of the raiders was armed with a hammer.

However they fled the scene empty-handed in a getaway car.

Gardai were quickly on the scene and made the arrests a short distance away.

The men are being held at Store St Garda Station.

In the past year there have been 27 security van raids in Dublin.

A special armed Garda unit has been established but it is understood in was not involved in this afternoon’s incident.
