Businesses remain on bogus Euro alert

Gardai are warning businesses to remain on alert this morning for counterfeit euro banknotes despite two forgeries being found to be genuine.

An investigation is ongoing on suspect notes discovered in Dublin, but Euro cash examined in Cavan has proved to be authentic.

So far only one case of forgery has been found, a copy discovered in Straffan, Co. Kildare and described by Gardai as crude and probably made by a colour photocopier.

Soon after that find, a suspect five and ten euro note found in Baileboro, Co. Cavan were examined by the Central Bank who later confirmed they were authentic.

However, late last night, Gardai in Dublin were investigating the discovery of a suspicious ten euro note in a newsagent in Hartstown.

The Euro Changeover Board of Ireland has also warned those working with cash to be vigilant but say the euro is well equipped with security features.
