Loyalists blamed for Belfast murder bid

Loyalists are being blamed for the stabbing of a Catholic man at an interface in North Belfast.

The 43-year-old father of five was attacked near his home in Newington St in the Limestone Rd area of the city.

Sinn Fein councillor Gerard Brophy is accusing the UDA of being behind this and other attacks on nationalists in the area.

He says the attack harks back to the days of the Shankill Butchers, a gang of loyalist thugs which randomly murdered Catholics in the city.

The victim was repeatedly stabbed about the head and body.

According to witnesses the man was set upon after confronting a gang who were interfering with a car outside his house.
