Lawlor due back in jail

Dublin West independent TD Liam Lawlor is today heading back to jail after his Christmas break in New York.

The decision of the court to allow Mr Lawlor to spend Christmas with his son in the US before starting his jail sentence sparked controversy.

Photographers will try to catch him entering Mountjoy jail today for yet another seven-day term.

Mr Lawlor's sentence is to begin no later than 2pm this afternoon.

Last month the Supreme court upheld the decision of the High court imposing the sentence for failing to cooperate with the Flood Tribunal.

The court also imposed a fine of £5,000 payable by December 31.
