Tallaght shooting: Local man charged

An unemployed man today faced a court charged with the St Stephen's Day murder of a married man in Tallaght.

Shay Wildes, aged 34, appeared before Dublin District Court following the death of 48-year-old Joseph Cummins, who was fatally shot in the Dublin suburb.

Wearing a green jacket, black trousers and shoes, shaven-headed Wildes, from Corbally Park, Tallaght, said nothing during the two-minute hearing before Judge Leo Malone.

Mr Cummins was killed in Tallaght on Wednesday. He was shot three times near his home in Dunaghmore Crescent.

Police had difficulty in establishing the identity of the victim and had to issue a lengthy description of him.

Wildes was remanded in custody to appear again before Clover Hill District Court on January 4 2002.

No application for bail was made by his solicitor John Gaffney.
