Man dies in hit-and-run accident

A man has died in a suspected hit-and-run in the early hours of this morning.

The 26-year-old man was found lying on the roadside at Moyvilla, Oranmore, Co Galway.

He was taken to Galway University College Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Hours earlier, an 18-year-old woman was walking along the main Cork to Waterford road, outside Middleton, Co Cork, when she was struck by a car.

She was taken to Cork University Hospital, after the accident at Courtstown, Little Island, but died a short time later.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses.
