Man still held over Carlow jewellery shop robbery

A 27-year-old man is still being detained at Carlow garda station following an armed robbery at a jewellery shop in the town yesterday.

Two men, one armed with a small firearm and the other with a hammer, took a quantity of jewellery and some cash from the shop on Castle St.

Nobody was injured in the robbery, but there were customers in the shop at the time.

The man was arrested a short time later after a car was found abandoned in St Mary's Park. Gardai are still on the trail of the other man.
