Youghal Carpets workforce accept cost cuts

Almost 270 workers at Youghal Carpets in Cork have accepted a package of cost cutting measures today.

Proposals were drawn up between unions and management under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission in a bid to ensure the future of the plant.

Rejection of the proposals would have seen the company close next February.

Unions were recommending that the workers accept the deal but the proposals are understood to contain stringent cost cuts.
