Large crowds gather for winter solstice

Archaeologists and VIPs from around the world are gathering at Newgrange burial chamber in Co Meath this morning to witness sunrise for the winter solstice on what is the shortest day of the year.

Shortly after 8am the rays of the sun at dawn for the next five days will light up the entire burial chamber in an extraordinary phenomenon that has baffled scientists.
