Truckers plan city protest

Up to 200 truck drivers are due to protest in Dublin city centre this morning, to highlight their concern at the closure of unofficial dumps in Co Wicklow.

The discovery of hazardous hospital waste in a number of dumps recently, has led to their closure.

The hauliers say they only dump "ordinary muck and builders' rubble" at the sites, which they regard as a land reclamation process.

Today's protest will focus on government buildings.

The trucks will leave Blessington, Co Wicklow at around 8am and travel along the N81from Tallaght to the M50. They will then come down the quays to government buildings.
