Gardai quiz man in connection with Limerick pensioner's death

Limerick gardai are to question a man for a further six hours about the murder of 75-year-old retired schoolteacher Joe O'Doherty.

Limerick gardai are to question a man for a further six hours about the murder of 75-year-old retired schoolteacher Joe O'Doherty.

Mr O'Doherty was found battered to death in his bungalow in the grounds of the Good Shepherd convent in the Pennywell area of Limerick last week.

He had been beaten up and detectives believe he may have opened the front door of his bungalow to his attacker.

The man was arrested last night and must be either charged or released by 2pm today.
