The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has hinted that Ireland may send soldiers to join UN peacekeeping forces in Afghanistan next year.

Speaking in Belgium today, he said Ireland will not participate in the peacekeeping force for the moment because of the scale of the operation and the necessary requirements.
