Man charged over pipe bomb attack on family

A Co Derry teenager was today appearing before magistrates after being charged following a pipe bomb attack on a family home.

He is accused of causing an explosion and intimidation following the attack on a Catholic family of five at their home in the Articlave area of Coleraine.

The 19-year-old man from Castlerock will appear before North Antrim magistrates sitting in Coleraine today.

Police described the bomb, which exploded yesterday morning, as sophisticated and potentially lethal.

A mother, father and three children, the youngest aged eight, escaped without injury.

The bomb shattered a front window and peppered PVC panelling with shrapnel, while a crater was left in the front garden.
