Oireachtas committee to appeal Abbeylara ruling

The Oireachtas committee investigating the killing of John Carthy in Abbeylara, Co Longford, last year has decided to appeal a High Court decision halting the inquiry.

The High Court ruled that members of the Oireachtas are not constitutionally entitled to ascertain facts or express opinions which could damage the reputations of citizens.
