Bomb suspect alleges assault during arrest

The North’s police ombudsman is investigating claims that a suspected republican dissident was assaulted by police during his arrest last Tuesday morning.

30-year-old Conor Casey, from Cookstown, Co Tyrone, needed hospital treatment following his arrest in connection with the discovery of a 200lb car bomb in Armagh.

Mr Casey appeared in court today charged with possession of explosions with intent to cause injury and with conspiracy to murder.

He was arrested on Tuesday after police stopped a car containing the fully primed bomb near Killylea.
