Dublin shooting may be gangland killing

It is reported that the man shot in Santry, Dublin, last night may have been a victim of a gangland killing.

Gardai have launched a murder inquiry into the shooting.

The middle-aged man was shot a number of times in an estate in Santry around 10pm last night.

The victim, who is yet to have been positively identified, is believed to be 40 years of age and from Finglas.

The scene of the killing was sealed off last night for forensic examination by a team from the garda technical bureau.

The body has been taken to the city morgue where a post mortem examination will be conducted by the deputy state pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy.

Dr Cassidy has already conducted a preliminary examination of the body and scene.
