Aer Rianta plans reply to Dublin report

Aer Rianta will today begin to consider a response to a Government report which calls for the construction of a new terminal at Dublin Airport.

The Government report has recommended new proposals which are designed to bring more low-cost flights and greater tourist numbers into the country.

According to the Government report, Dublin Airport is too small for the volume of traffic.

The interdepartmental report recommends that a new terminal - known as Pier D - be constructed at Dublin by 2003.

It calls for a more aggressive drive to push growth in passenger numbers through Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports.

The report also calls for new measures to encourage traffic growth by low cost fares into the country in time for next year's tourism season.

The Taoiseach has discussed the proposals with the public enterprise Minister Mary O’Rourke.

Minister O’ Rourke has asked Aer Rianta to make a response next Monday.
