The IMPACT trade union has claimed that almost 5,000 criminal cases are being delayed by up to six months because of staff shortages in the forensic science laboratory.

IMPACT has called for 14 more technical employees to be hired to speed up the processing of sexual assault cases, armed robberies and drugs offences.
