Arrests made in North after arms find

A number of people were arrested today when police found guns believed to be linked to dissident republicans in the North.

A number of people were arrested today when police found guns believed to be linked to dissident republicans in the North.

They were held after a rifle, two handguns, ammunition and a bomb detonator were discovered at a house Lurgan, Co Armagh.

Police said they carried out a planned search of the property in the nationalist Kilwilkie estate.

Ballistic tests will be carried out on the weapons to find out if they have been used in attacks.

Clothing and what may have been two stun guns were also taken away for forensic examination.

It is believed that at least one woman was among those detained by police officers investigating the activities of dissident republicans opposed to the Good Friday Agreement.
