IRA will issue medals

The IRA is planning to commemorate the work of terrorists in the 'war' against the British.

It will mint thousands of campaign medals for terrorists, as a way of formally marking the end of recent violence.

But according to a British newspaper, the news being announced on Remembrance Sunday has angered IRA victims.

It is today that British war veterans traditionally display their decorations.

Hazlett Lynch's brother was gunned down by the IRA in 1977.

She said: "I'm appalled they should attempt to honour those people who have murdered, maimed and created mayhem."

Some former IRA members see the medal as a sweetener for dissolving the organisation and are likely to refuse it.

Former IRA commander Anthony McIntyre said: "This is a losers' medal."
