The Economic and Social Research Institute has advised Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy to devise a neutral budget this year because of the downturn in Ireland’s economy.

The ESRI said GDP is expected to fall to 6.4% and GNP to 4.9%, so this year’s budget must be tighter than last year’s.
