Denis Gallagher to be buried today

The funeral of former Fianna Fail minister Denis Gallagher will take place on Achill Island later this afternoon.

Mr Gallagher, who served as a TD for Mayo from 1973 to 1989, died in hospital on Saturday after a short illness.

He was 77 years old.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, who will attend the funeral, has described the former Minister for the Gaeltacht as a "giant of the West".
