The name of the North's police force changed at midnight, consigning the title of 'Royal Ulster Constabulary' to history.

The first batch of recruits to the new 'Police Service of Northern Ireland' begins training today, with the Police Board also taking up its powers.

The force has the backing of all the main political parties in the North, except Sinn Fein.
