Health Minister Micheal Martin has called for cigarettes and tobacco to be removed from the Consumer Price Index, the benchmark used to calculate inflation.

Speaking at an anti-smoking conference in Dublin today, the minister said it is no longer legitimate to include tobacco products in the CPI.
