TUI rejects pay offer for supervision duties
The Teachers Union of Ireland has voted to reject the Government’s offer of £27 per hour for supervision and substitution duties.
55% of the union’s members voted against the pay offer, which was also rejected by Ireland’s largest teachers’ union, the ASTI.
Teachers currently supervise during break times and substitute for absent colleagues on a voluntary basis, but they have used this as a tool in their campaign for a 30% pay increase.
The ASTI has already threatened to withdraw from these voluntary duties, a move that could close secondary schools throughout Ireland.
