New EU legislation on superdumps and incinerators
The European Parliament has approved new draft legislation on public participation in environmental projects.
Local authorities and companies planning to build superdumps or incinerators will now have to fully consult local communities in advance of such developments.
These communities can now call on state funding to mount a legal challenge against such moves.
It will come as good news for residents in east Meath and Ringaskiddy in Co Cork who are currently fighting battles to stop incinerators being installed in their regions.
