Spanish police want to question Michael McArdle, from Brookfield, Haggartstown, about the death of his wife in Marbella, on the Costa del Sol, on February 13 2000.

Kelly-Anne McArdle died after falling from the balcony in her fourth-floor holiday apartment after what police initially believed was an accident.

However, Spanish police have now reopened the investigation and have sought Mr McArdle’s extradition so they can interview him.

The defendant was arrested by gardai last night and has now been sent to Cloverhill Prison until another court hearing on Friday.
