Man faces extradition hearing in Dublin

An Irish man was today due to appear before a court in Dublin court to face extradition to Spain in connection with the death of his wife during a holiday to Marbella.

Michael ‘‘Dermot’’ McArdle, aged 32, originally from Dundalk, Co Louth, is to appear in Dublin District Court following the death of his wife Kelly-Anne, 28, who fell from a balcony during the holiday, nearly two years ago.

It was initially thought the mother-of-two died accidentally in her fall from the fourth floor, which happened on February 13, 2000.

But Spanish police launched an investigation into the death, which happened on the first day of the couple’s week-long holiday.

Spanish authorities have now requested McArdle’s extradition to that they can question him.

They issued a warrant for his arrest, which was executed yesterday morning by detectives from the extradition section in Dublin.

McArdle spent last night in custody.

McArdle and his wife were living in Wheaton Hall, Drogheda, at the time of her death.
