Trimble and Adams in bid to break deadlock

Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble and Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams met today in a bid to save Northern Ireland’s political institutions.

With speculation intensifying that the IRA is on the verge of an historic move on disarmament, the UUP chief was preparing to hand in a letter removing his ministers from the power-sharing Northern Ireland Executive.
